Parents' Rights

As the parent of a child at Sutter Children's Center, you have the right:

To be treated with courtesy and respect by health care professionals who introduce themselves and explain their roles in your child's care.

To be recognized as the person who knows your child best.

To have care provided to your child in a nonjudgmental manner regardless of culture, values or life styles.

To have privacy and confidentiality about your child's condition.

To stay with your child as much as you are able. To leave the hospital when you need to with the assurance that your child will be well cared for in your absence.

To participate in your child's care as much as you are able and to the extent that your child's condition permits

To receive explanations of all procedures or plans before they occur.

To have access to complete information about your child's illness and plan of care. To have that information conveyed to you in your native language by an interpreter whenever possible.

To have the opportunity to make informed decisions about your child's care.

To have your child's care based upon his or her special stage of growth and development

To feel confident that your child's health care needs can be met upon discharge from the hospital.

To express feelings related to your child's condition.
